I grew up in South Africa, in the heart of the Free State Province. For most of my childhood, I lived on a farm called ‘Vogelsvlei,’ named for the abundance of birdlife.

Having a strong kinship with Nature, some of my biggest passions and sources of inspiration have always been photography, art, and animals, especially horses.

  • Photography, for the ability to capture an instant, a moment in time, celebrating just being alive together. To always remember, to never forget.
  • Art, for the adventure, the freedom of expression, and association.
  • Horses, for the magnificent creatures that they are. I love to photograph, draw, and paint them. They have been one of my greatest sources of  joy and heartbreak throughout my life.

No matter the subject I choose to focus on, my work usually displays an underlying tenderness, sometimes melancholy, either through expression, movement, or emotion. I like to focus on quiet and intimate moments.

I use warm earthy colors: browns, yellows, oranges, and reds. I love exploring and like to experiment with different mediums, but my preference is mostly oil and watercolor. While oil gives me the control I sometimes need, watercolor embodies all the spontaneity of water and takes on a will of its own, never being too sure of the end result.

In sharing some of my work, I will always consider Life itself to be my greatest teacher, and I hope to remain a humble student.
